Job summary

TEKsystems in Mason, MI seeks a technical expert in system administration for enterprise server and storage environments. The role emphasizes implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining complex operating systems with security controls and documentation.

Responsibilities cover design, deployment, DR planning, and cross-functional interaction with vendors. The position is hybrid, contract-to-hire, with pay between $45 and $55 per hour.

Qualifications

• Requires one of the following: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field and three (3) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years, OR
• High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years
• Three (3) years of experience within the last five years managing a multi-server environment
• One (1) year of experience with VMware administration and management
• Experience configuring server operating systems
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to others
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, test, implement, troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems
• Design, deploy, and maintain server hosts, storage systems, VMs and related hardware
• Maintain expertise on Datacenter compute, Storage and Cloud compute technologies
• Implement and maintain security solutions (firewall, antivirus, remedy processes)
• Produce written proposals describing solutions, equipment, cost, and timelines
• Aid in developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans
• Manage servers and their operating systems/software
• Perform domain security audits
• Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure server products/services
• Provide training and relevant documents for support personnel and customers
• Define and monitor server storage space allotments

Description

Serve as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems, responsible for successful implementation, and system availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, design, test, implement, troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems


• Design, deploy, and maintain company server hosts, storage systems, virtual machines, and related hardware


• Actively work to maintain and develop expertise on relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the Datacenter compute, Storage and Cloud compute industries


• Implement and maintain security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and remedy processes


• Produce written documentation for proposals which describe solutions to business problems, including the equipment recommended, cost of the equipment, and time required to successfully (and fully) implement the solution


• Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans as well as perform DR configuration changes


• Manage servers and their associated operating systems/software


• Perform domain security audits


• Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure server products and services


• Provide training and relevant document for support personnel (which includes Help Desk, computer technicians, and trainers), internal/external customers, and management


• Define and monitor server storage space allotments

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• No supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Requires one of the following:


• Bachelors degree with an emphasis in computer science, information systems, or related field of study and three (3) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years, OR


• High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years


• Three (3) years of experience within the last five years managing a multi-server environment


• One (1) year of experience with VMWare administration and management


• Experience configuring server operating systems


• Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with individuals, groups, or work teams to explain difficult technical issues and the ability to listen effectively


• Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Up to 15% domestic and international travel


• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license and passport


• Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
