TEKsystems is seeking a senior system administrator specialist in Mason, MI to oversee enterprise server/storage systems, virtualization, and security. You will design, deploy, and maintain hosts, VMs, and storage while ensuring system availability and DR readiness.

The role requires VMware, Windows/Linux experience, and strong problem-solving skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This contract-to-hire position is hybrid with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field and 3 years IT experience OR high school diploma with 6 years IT experience
• Three years of experience in the last five years managing a multi-server environment
• One year of VMware administration and management
• Experience configuring server operating systems
• Excellent verbal communication skills to explain difficult technical issues and listen effectively
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused environment with competing priorities

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, test, implement, troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems

• Maintain expertise on relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards
• Implement and maintain security solutions (firewall, anti-virus)
• Produce written proposals detailing equipment, cost, and time to implement

• Manage servers and their operating systems/software
• Perform domain security audits
• Interact with vendors/outsourcers/contractors for server products/services
• Provide training and documentation for support personnel and customers
• Define and monitor server storage space allotments

SUMMARY

Serve as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems, responsible for successful implementation, and system availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, design, test, implement, troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems
• Design, deploy, and maintain company server hosts, storage systems, virtual machines, and related hardware
• Actively work to maintain and develop expertise on relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the Datacenter compute, Storage and Cloud compute industries
• Implement and maintain security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and remedy processes
• Produce written documentation for proposals which describe solutions to business problems, including the equipment recommended, cost of the equipment, and time required to successfully (and fully) implement the solution
• Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans as well as perform DR configuration changes
• Manage servers and their associated operating systems/software
• Perform domain security audits
• Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure server products and services
• Provide training and relevant document for support personnel (which includes Help Desk, computer technicians, and trainers), internal/external customers, and management
• Define and monitor server storage space allotments

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Requires one of the following: o Bachelors degree with an emphasis in computer science, information systems, or related field of study and three (3) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years, OR o High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of related IT work experience within the last seven (7) years
• Three (3) years of experience within the last five years managing a multi-server environment
• One (1) year of experience with VMWare administration and management
• Experience configuring server operating systems
• Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with individuals, groups, or work teams to explain difficult technical issues and the ability to listen effectively
• Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Up to 15% domestic and international travel
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license and passport
Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
