Job summary

UL Standards & Engagement in Columbia, MD, seeks a skilled Solution Architect to guide technology decision-making and shape the organization's solution portfolio. You will translate business needs into architectures, promote standards, and oversee governance across initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years in architecture, strong cloud experience (Azure, AWS), API-driven design, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 8 years of experience as a Solutions Architect or in a similar technical leadership role.
Experience with custom software development, SaaS/PaaS platforms (M365, Salesforce, Workday), and IaaS platforms (Azure, AWS).
Certification as an Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Additional certifications in M365, Salesforce, Workday, custom application development, or research‑technology platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

Translate business drivers into effective solution designs.
Lead evaluation and selection of platforms, software solutions, and services.
Design standard and custom configurations as required.
Consult on application development, infrastructure design, and system integrations.
Promote architecture patterns and best practices.
Produce architecture deliverables—diagrams, reference models, standards, documentation.
Ensure security, compliance, data protection, and quality requirements.
