Job summary

Mercury is seeking a Data & AI Governance leader to build and spearhead an enterprise-wide governance program for data and AI. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the role will establish standards for data ownership, quality, and responsible use across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines governance and risk-management experience with technical fluency to collaborate with Data, Engineering, Product, Information Security, Legal, and compliance teams in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data governance, AI governance, technology risk, information governance, model risk, privacy, or related disciplines.
• Experience building or enhancing a data/AI governance or responsible-AI program.
• Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship, quality, lineage, and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Mercury’s enterprise Data and AI Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating model.
• Establish accountability for data ownership, stewardship, quality, lineage, classification, access, retention, and appropriate use.
• Create risk-based governance for AI use cases across their lifecycle, including intake, assessment, implementation, monitoring, and retirement.
• Develop responsible-AI principles and standards addressing transparency, explainability, fairness, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain an enterprise inventory of data assets, AI use cases, and governance decisions with stakeholders.
• Define risk-based classifications and governance requirements based on sensitivity and regulatory impact.
• Establish governance for internally developed, vendor-provided, and embedded AI, including generative AI.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and business teams to embed governance in development and change-management.
• Coordinate with Model Risk Management to determine when an AI use case meets the definition of a model and is subject to model-risk requirements.
• Work with Information Security and Technology Risk on data protection, cybersecurity, and access controls.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to implement regulatory and privacy requirements.
• Develop processes to identify, escalate, and remediate data- and AI-related risks and issues.
• Establish metrics/ reporting for governance maturity, AI adoption, incidents, and risks.
• Monitor regulatory developments and translate them into governance expectations.
• Support governance forums/committees and drive timely decisions.
• Eventually build and lead a high-performing Data & AI Governance team.
