Job summary

M&T Bank in Buffalo, NY seeks a senior leader to own the enterprise AI platform, including the Azure API Management gateway and Azure AI Foundry. You will shape platform strategy, oversee vendor relations, security, risk and regulatory compliance, and drive reliability across AI services.

You will manage budgets, staffing, and cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Technology, Risk and Legal to deliver trusted AI capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

• Minimum 11 years of higher education and/or work experience, including 4 years in engineering/architecture and 5 years in leadership with people management.
• Experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, cloud architecture or related tech.
• Direct experience operating API gateway infrastructure at scale (e.g., Azure API Management).
• Experience managing production gateway capabilities (traffic, routing, identity).
• Experience with Azure cloud services and technologies (Azure AI Foundry, Entra ID, Azure Monitor).
• Experience building/operating observability and cost monitoring (OpenTelemetry, cloud cost).
• Experience in regulated industries (banking, insurance, healthcare).
• Proven ability leading multiple teams across geographies and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Own the strategy, engineering and operation of the enterprise AI platform and gateways.
• Oversee gateway traffic management, rate limiting, identity integration and routing.
• Establish SLAs, runbooks, on-call processes, and incident response.
• Ensure platform reliability, scalability and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee model onboarding, lifecycle management and cost control.
• Build observability capabilities and audit trails for governance.
• Manage vendor relationships and transition capabilities to internal teams.
• Guide staffing, hiring and staff development for platform engineering.
• Ensure platform designs meet risk, security and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate architecture and processes to senior leadership and regulators.
