Vincennes University is seeking an English Tutor to support Ben Davis University High School students in a part-time, face-to-face role on the west side of Indianapolis. The tutor will provide one-on-one and small-group instruction aligned with college-level English expectations.
Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least twelve college hours in English; prior K-12 or post-secondary tutoring preferred. The position pays $20 per hour and is not benefits-eligible.
Early College is seeking candidates for the position of English Tutor. This is a part-time position in which the successful candidate will be integrated into our Early College program at Ben Davis University High School.
The English Tutor position is designed to provide one-on-one and small-group support for early college students at Ben Davis University High School. The English Tutor will work closely with both Wayne Township and Vincennes University faculty and staff to support students as they navigate college-level composition and literature coursework.
This role requires guiding students through complex texts, essay structure, critical thinking, and the development of effective study habits that prepare them for success in degree-bearing courses. Responsibilities include working with students who are struggling in applicable BDU courses, ensuring tutoring support directly aligns with Vincennes University English instructor expectations, and assisting students with formulating thesis statements, conducting collegiate-level research, citing sources in MLA and APA formats, and editing their own work.
Early College at Ben Davis University High School is a partnership between Vincennes University and Wayne Township School Corporation. It is located on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Previous experience in a K-12 or post-secondary setting is preferred but not required.
Ben Davis University High School is an endorsed Early College in the MSD of Wayne Township Schools located on the west side of Indianapolis. This position is for an adjunct professor who works for Vincennes University at our early college high school. BDU has a supportive small school environment with 430 students who must apply, interview, and are accepted and start the program in grade 9. BDUHS only has grades 10-12 and has celebrated 100% & 99% graduation rates for the past eleven years in which students earned both their Academic & Technical Honors Diploma and Associate Degree.
