Job summary

The Department of Transportation in North Carolina is seeking an Engineering Technician III for District 2 Permitting. You will review driveway permits, site plans, encroachment agreements, and subdivision plans, and perform on-site inspections to ensure compliance with DOT specifications.

You will conduct pre-construction meetings, interact with utility reps, contractors and property owners, and prepare deficiency letters.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology or a related discipline plus three years of progressive technician level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Computer experience including office software and drafting software.

Responsibilities

• Process and review driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
• Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT specifications.
• Conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties; meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and address questions/complaints.
• Prepare deficiency letters related to road additions, driveway permits, and encroachments.
• Assist the Division during emergencies and inclement weather; assist the District Engineer as assigned.

Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties. This position will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Duties involve operating a state-owned vehicle in the daily performance of duties.
