Job summary

Upbound Group, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead in Draper, Utah (on-site) to guide a hands-on engineering team across the full software lifecycle, from design to deployment.

You will own technical direction, APIs, and non-functional requirements, and collaborate with product management, QA, and architects. The role emphasizes performance, observability, and scalable solutions, with mentoring, code reviews, and release readiness, while staying current with cloud and AI-enabled

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of experience building complex applications and integrating third-party APIs.
• Proficiency with Elixir and other languages.
• Experience using AI tools like Claude and Github Copilot to improve development efficiency.
• Proven project management and team leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Strong understanding of software principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with Typescript/JavaScript/Node.js.
• Experience with AWS cloud platforms and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership and detailed direction across the delivery lifecycle.
• Own and execute the team’s technical solution and architectural direction.
• Lead technical backlog refinement and ensure executable work.
• Drive integration contracts, API design, and adherence to guardrails.
• Own non-functional requirements like performance and observability.
• Partner on test strategy and ensure readiness for release.
• Support go-live, production incident response, and deployments.
• Collaborate with managers, architects, QA, and engineers for alignment.
• Implement engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
