Job summary

Upbound Group, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead in Draper, Utah, on-site, to guide a hands-on engineering team across the full software lifecycle.

You will shape the team’s technical direction, drive API design, and ensure performance, resiliency, and observability while mentoring engineers. The role requires 8+ years building complex, scalable apps, proficiency in Elixir and modern languages, and experience with AWS, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of experience building complex applications and integrating third-party APIs.
• Proficient with Elixir development as well as other languages.
• Experience with AI tools like Claude and Github Copilot to improve development efficiency.
• Proven project management and team leadership.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Familiarity with Typescript, JavaScript and Node.js.
• Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Docker/Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership and detailed guidance across the delivery lifecycle.
• Own and execute the team's technical solution and ensure architectural alignment.
• Lead backlog refinement from a technical perspective and ensure work is executable.
• Drive day-to-day technical execution including API design and integration contracts.
• Own non-functional requirements: performance, resiliency, observability.
• Partner on test strategy and quality gates, ensuring release readiness.
• Support production deployments and incident response with technical leadership.
• Collaborate with managers, architects, QA, and engineers for alignment and improvement.
• Implement best practices in engineering processes to boost efficiency.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies.
