Job summary

Discord is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Notifications team within Growth. You will oversee Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines, and Kubernetes infra, driving scalability and reliability while partnering with Product, Design, Data Science and Marketing.

You will mentor engineers, ship measurable improvements in engagement and retention, and shape a high-performing team culture focused on ownership and fast iteration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as Software Engineer, with backend or infra at scale.
• 2+ years as Engineering Manager.
• Experience owning production systems on Elixir, Python, pubsub, and Kubernetes.
• Collaborates with product, design, data science, and other engineers to ship solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers building and operating the notifications platform.
• Set technical direction and ensure scalable, reliable systems.
• Partner with product, design, data science, and marketing on roadmap.
• Drive engagement and retention through experiments and metrics.
• Hire, coach, and instill engineering best practices.
• Collaborate across teams to evolve reusable primitives.
