Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AV Observability efforts within the AV Developer Productivity organization. The role emphasizes leadership of engineers, tooling strategy, and a strong focus on instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing across GM's AV software stack.

You will guide cross‑functional collaboration with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams while shaping scalable data pipelines and dashboards for site reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of proven leadership experience managing software or SRE teams.
• Deep understanding of logs, metrics, and traces with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and microservices.
• Familiarity with Go, Python, and TypeScript; code reviews and architecture decisions.
• Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure and Kubernetes/Docker.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of defining instrumenting SLIs and SLOs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of engineers; conduct performance reviews and coaching.
• Define and execute the observability platform's vision and roadmap.
• Provide architectural guidance on instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Ensure rapid incident detection, debugging, and resolution to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with AI/ML, firmware, and infra teams to improve reliability.
• Develop internal tools and data pipelines for telemetry at scale.
• Manage relationships and costs with third-party observability platforms.
