Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Engineering Manager for the AV Developer Productivity team to lead a high-impact group of engineers delivering and evolving developer tools used by GM's AV program.

The role focuses on guiding the observability platform, scaling data pipelines, and partnering with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams to improve system reliability and developer experience.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of proven leadership experience managing software or SRE teams.
• Deep understanding of software engineering workflows and ML engineering workflows.
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and microservices.
• Familiarity with Go, Python, TypeScript or similar languages.
• Experience with modern cloud offerings (GCP, AWS, Azure) and CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of GCP, Go, Python, TypeScript technologies.

Responsibilities

• Team leadership: manage and grow a team of engineers with performance reviews and coaching.
• Define and execute the observability platform roadmap and technical vision.
• Provide architectural guidance on instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Oversee incident response to minimize downtime and resolve issues quickly.
• Collaborate with AI/ML, firmware, and infra teams to improve reliability.
• Lead internal tool and data pipeline development for telemetry at scale.
• Manage relationships and costs with third-party observability vendors.
