Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AV Developer Productivity team. You’ll guide a group of engineers and shape the internal observability toolkit used by 1,500+ developers to improve reliability and productivity across GM’s autonomous driving stack.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, platform strategy, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering high ROI investments while balancing business needs, user value, and growth of the engineers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of proven leadership experience managing software or SRE teams
• Deep understanding of software engineering and ML engineering workflows and delivering solutions that improved them
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and microservices
• Familiarity with Go, Python, TypeScript and code review practices
• Experience with modern cloud offerings (GCP/AWS/Azure) and technologies like CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with diverse teams
• Knowledge of observability tools and telemetry practices would be a plus

Responsibilities

• Team leadership: Manage and grow a team of engineers, conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support career development
• Technical strategy: Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the observability platform
• Architectural oversight: Guide instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing for visibility across GM’s AV software stack
• Incident response: Ensure tools enable rapid detection, debugging, and resolution of failures to minimize downtime
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams to implement observability practices
• Platform development: Lead development of internal tools and data pipelines to collect, analyze, and visualize telemetry at scale
• Vendor management: Manage relationships and costs with third-party observability software and platforms
