Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Engineering Manager for the AV Developer Productivity team, focusing on observability tooling and platform health. You will lead engineers, shape technical strategy, and drive architecture across the AV software stack.

You will collaborate with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams to scale telemetry, logs, and metrics. Hybrid work with Sunnyvale, Austin, or Warren locations is expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of leadership experience managing software or SRE teams.
• Deep understanding of logs, metrics, and traces; experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and microservices.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript and code review practices.
• Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure, plus Kubernetes and Docker.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Team leadership: manage and grow a team of engineers, performance reviews, coaching, and career development.
• Technical strategy: define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the observability platform.
• Architectural oversight: provide guidance on instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing for visibility across GM’s AV stack.
• Incident response: ensure tools enable rapid detection, debugging, and resolution to minimize downtime.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams to improve reliability.
• Platform development: lead internal tools and data pipelines to collect and visualize telemetry at scale.
• Vendor management: manage relationships and costs with third-party observability software.
