Job summary

Verkada Inc. is hiring an Engineering Manager in the San Mateo area to lead a team of frontend and backend engineers, delivering major customer-facing initiatives from concept through production.

You will partner with Product, Design, Firmware, and Mobile teams to set roadmaps and drive architectural decisions while cultivating a culture of engineering excellence. The role requires strong leadership and a track record of shipping scalable distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with Python, Go, or React.
• 1+ years of experience managing software engineers.
• Experience building production software across both frontend and backend systems.
• Strong software architecture and system design skills.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large cross-functional technical projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain exceptional engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend software engineers through coaching, regular feedback, career development, and hiring.
• Own delivery for major customer-facing initiatives from concept through production.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Firmware, Mobile, and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and execute against ambitious goals.
• Drive technical direction while empowering engineers to make architectural decisions.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence through code reviews, design discussions, testing, and operational discipline.
• Help build highly reliable, observable, and scalable distributed systems powering millions of real-time events.
• Improve engineering processes, execution, and team health while maintaining a high quality bar.
• Participate in hiring and help build an exceptional engineering organization.
