Job summary

Verkada's Access Control team builds software that securely manages millions of door events, connecting cloud services, apps, and edge hardware. As Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing team, shape technical direction, and scale production systems.

You will mentor engineers, own delivery of major initiatives from concept to production, collaborate with product, firmware, mobile, and other teams, and help grow a culture of engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in Python, Go, or React.
• 1+ years managing software engineers.
• Experience building production software across both frontend and backend systems.
• Strong software architecture and system design skills.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.Demonstrated ability to lead large cross-functional technical projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain exceptional engineers.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend software engineers through coaching, regular feedback, career development, and hiring.
• Own delivery for major customer-facing initiatives from concept through production.
• Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Firmware, Mobile, and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and execute against ambitious goals.
• Drive technical direction while empowering engineers to make architectural decisions.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence through thoughtful code reviews, design discussions, testing, and operational discipline.
• Help build highly reliable, observable, and scalable distributed systems that power millions of real-time events.
• Improve engineering processes, execution, and team health while maintaining a high quality bar.
• Participate in hiring and help build an exceptional engineering organization.
