Job summary

General Motors LLC is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the AV Developer Productivity team, focusing on building and evolving the observability platform used by thousands of engineers. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure groups to improve system reliability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of leadership experience managing software or SRE teams.
• Deep understanding of software engineering workflows and ML engineering workloads and solutions.
• Strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and microservices architectures.
• Proficient in Go, Python, and TypeScript; strong code review and architectural decision-making.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure) and CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker.
• Excellent communication to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with defining instrumenting SLIs and SLOs.

Responsibilities

• Team leadership: manage and grow a team of engineers, conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and career development.
• Technical strategy: define and execute the observability platform road map with actionable insights.
• Architectural oversight: guide instrumentation, logging, metrics, and tracing for visibility across GM's AV software stack.
• Incident response: ensure tooling enables rapid detection, debugging and resolution to minimize downtime.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with AI/ML, firmware, and infrastructure teams to improve reliability.
• Platform development: lead internal tools and data pipelines to collect and visualize telemetry at scale.
• Vendor management: manage third-party observability tools and related costs.
