Job summary

Free Market Health in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Engineering Manager who will lead one or more software delivery teams. You’ll focus on people, hiring, coaching, and helping engineers deliver reliably while still writing code when needed.

You’ll collaborate with Product on planning, set expectations, and drive engineering excellence across a modern web and cloud stack, including AI-assisted development initiatives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years as an engineering manager, team lead, or tech lead
• Experience leading Agile delivery and roadmaps
• Hands-on with modern web and cloud stack
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude Code
• Clear, direct communication with stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow software engineers and team leads
• Hold regular 1:1s and give timely feedback
• Own performance and career development cycles for your teams
• Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard engineers
• Balance new features with reliability and sustainable pace
• Collaborate with Product on planning and priorities
• Contribute hands-on to projects and tooling
• Participate in triage, on-call, and incident follow-through
