Hirix (Hunt & Gather Sdn Bhd) is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead and grow a high-performing, distributed engineering team. In this role, you will own the technical direction, delivery cadence, and team culture that powers our core products. You will partner closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to translate strategy into executable engineering roadmaps. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable diving into architectural decisions and developing the careers of their engineers.
What you'll do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers across all levels, conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning
- Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives — from scoping and planning through to production deployment and post-launch iteration
- Define and enforce engineering standards, code quality practices, and architectural guidelines that scale with the organisation
- Partner with Product and Design to refine roadmaps, negotiate scope, and ensure technical feasibility and effort estimates are accurate
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement through retrospectives, incident reviews, and proactive identification of technical debt
- Recruit, interview, and onboard engineering talent, maintaining a high hiring bar aligned with team growth needs
- Serve as the primary escalation point for cross-functional technical dependencies, risks, and blockers
What we're looking for
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or team lead role
- Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-team software projects on time and at quality
- Strong grasp of modern software architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven systems, API design) and the ability to contribute meaningfully to technical discussions
- Experience managing remote or distributed engineering teams across time zones
- Demonstrated ability to build psychological safety, resolve conflict, and cultivate a healthy, inclusive team culture
- Proficiency with Agile/Scrum methodologies and modern delivery tooling (Jira, Linear, or equivalent)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Hands-on background in backend, full-stack, or platform engineering to credibly guide architectural decisions
What you get
- Fully remote work arrangement with flexible hours
- Competitive salary with structured performance reviews
- Professional development budget for courses, conferences, and certifications
- Collaborative, outcome-focused culture with minimal bureaucracy
- Opportunity to shape engineering culture and processes from the ground up
