Job Description

General Functions

Engineering Inspector I/II

Performs technical level inspections of assigned projects for the Stormwater Management Division. This work is performed under field conditions. An employee in a position assigned to this classification is required to be well experienced in all aspects of construction, documentation and inspection stormwater projects.

This position is required to communicate with contractors while ensuring projects are per Orange County Standards, while supporting immediate response to field issues with the guidance of the Engineering Inspector III. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Engineering Inspector III

Performs technical level inspections of assigned projects for the Stormwater Management Division. This work is performed under field conditions. An employee in a position assigned to this classification is required to be well experienced in all aspects of construction, documentation and inspection stormwater projects.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Engineering Inspector I/II

• Performs inspections of maintenance and rehabilitation construction activities for our stormwater conveyance systems throughout Orange County to ensure full compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Performs daily inspection of term contracts for services such as retention pond mowing and primary canal mowing, retention pond aquatic weed control, pond and primary canal sediment removal and other inspections as assigned.
• Determines quantities for materials used and amount of work completed.
• Ensures public safety and traffic management at construction sites.
• Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including engineering drawings, photographs, contracts and agreements, technical reports, invoices, billing statements, change order requests, project diary, memos and correspondence.

Engineering Inspector III

• This is advanced technical work with emphasis on field supervision and inspection
• Supervise Engineering Inspector I and II's for detailed inspection for compliance with contract documents, approved design plans and specifications, and applicable regulations.
• Performs inspections of maintenance and rehabilitation construction activities for our stormwater conveyance systems throughout Orange County to ensure full compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Performs daily inspection of term contracts for services such as Stormwater Infrastructure Rehabilitation, retention pond mowing and primary canal mowing, retention pond aquatic weed control, pond and primary canal sediment removal and other inspections as assigned
• Determines quantities for materials used and amount of work completed.
• Ensures public safety and traffic management at construction sites.
• Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including engineering drawings, photographs, contracts and agreements, technical reports, invoices, billing statements, change order requests, project diary, memos and correspondence.
• May assume joint responsibility for supervising the inspection function in the absence of the assigned supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineering Inspector I

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and two (2) years of engineering or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience on a year for year basis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Required to satisfactorily complete the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for Inspector within two (2) years of hire date.

Engineering Inspector II

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and four (4) years of appropriate engineering or construction experience based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of related education, training or experience on a year for year basis.
• Must have satisfactorily completed the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or must complete within six (6) months of entry into the position.
• Must have the ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.

Engineering Inspector III

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and six (6) years of appropriate engineering or construction experience based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of related education, training or experience on a year for year basis.
• Must have satisfactorily completed the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or must complete within six (6) months of entry into the position.
• Must have the ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and obtain a Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
• Depending on area of assignment, must have satisfactorily completed the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or must complete within six months of entry into the position.
• Must have the ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.

Preferences

Engineering Inspector I/II

• Inspection Experience in: Stormwater Rehabilitation and Aquatic Weed Control
• Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications to be able to apply it to an infrastructure.
• Experience working with contractors.
• Experience in the field.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Engineering Inspector III

• Inspection Experience and Knowledge in: Stormwater Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Aquatic Weed Control
• Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications to be able to apply it to an infrastructure.
• Construction Experience.
• Experience working with contractors.
• Experience in the field.
• Excellence organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
