Job summary

Orange County Government seeks a Supervisory Heavy Equipment Training Coordinator in Orlando, FL. The role oversees field crews, administers a heavy equipment training program with real equipment and simulators, and ensures safety and quality in operations across various county projects.

• Plans, schedules and supervises assigned employees engaged in a variety of routine to complex tasks in support of a specific area of County responsibility.
• Meets and works with management and supervisors, to assess, identify and develop effective department equipment training.
• Responsible for identifying and refining processes that promote and enable skill development and job performance routinely carried out by various crews in the field.
• Instructs employees in the proper methods, use and equipment used in the activity supervised.
• Conduct on-the-job training activities with new hires that will require advanced practical knowledge of equipment used by the department.
• Liaisons with County Departments to research training needs and to ensure all necessary information is included in training modules.
• Observes for safety hazards and takes precautionary measures.
• Prepares production & training records and reports as required.
• May directly participate in the work of crews as necessary.
• Works under direct supervision of the Public Works Coordinator.
• Participates in the division's emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts for adverse weather situations.
• Performs Other Related Work As Required.

Job Description

General Functions:

Performs moderate to difficult supervisory work in a wide variety of areas.

This is supervisory work over field crews of employees engaged in a variety of routine to complex roadway maintenance and construction work.

This position specializes in the Heavy Equipment training Program for various types of County equipment with the use of actual equipment and the simulator.

An employee assigned to a position allocated to this class of work supervises the activities of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled employees performing work in a specified area of County responsibility.

Jobs are assigned by priority and completion date with discretionary judgment exercised in daily production and quality of workmanship. Supervision is received from a higher graded supervisor who may inspect the crew’s work in progress. Performance is evaluated based on results achieved.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) or more years of experience in providing heavy equipment training or performing heavy equipment operations in construction or retrofit work of roads and drainage systems, to include some previous supervisory duties.

Preferences

• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Thorough knowledge of heavy equipment usage and operation in general construction and roadway and drainage infrastructure construction.

Preferred

• Experience as an equipment trainer is preferred.
• Ability to independently prepare productivity and training logs.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay Grade: 015 - From $25.00 to $32.49
