Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Engineering Designer to support the Steel America division. The role focuses on designing components and modifying existing designs to facilitate fabrication, using CAD/CAM tools to develop solutions for manufacturing challenges.

The position is onsite at our Norfolk facilities, with responsibilities to prepare drawings, 3D models, CNC/DSTV files, and BOMs while coordinating with project teams; some travel and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering with 2+ years of design experience in industrial fabrication or shipbuilding/repair.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specs with strong attention to detail.
• Proficient in 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare shop, parts and erection drawings and 3D models for parts and assemblies.
• Create CNC and DSTV files to support steel processing and fabrication.
• Perform material calculations, structural analysis and standards compliance.
• Develop and maintain drafting standards and project documentation.
