Job summary

The City of Fairbanks is seeking an Engineer Assistant I or II to support engineers and surveyors on public utilities, streets, and City facilities, working with contractors and residents to resolve issues. You will report to the City Engineer.

Responsibilities include staking, surveying, inspections, drafting/CADD, GIS, data entry, and ADA compliance reviews, with progression from assistant tasks to independent project work within ROW and City assets.

Qualifications

• General understanding of construction, engineering, land and surveying practices.
• Skill in college level math.
• Skill in computer applications.
• Ability to take direction from the City Engineer.
• Ability to use computer, AutoCAD, Civil3D, calculator, and copier.
• Willingness to learn how to use survey equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineers as needed and directed by the City Engineer.
• Assist City Engineer and City Surveyor with staking, surveying, measurements, inspections and data entry.
• Support drafting/CADD, GIS, sign and striping inventories, and ADA compliance reviews.
• Independently manage City Engineering projects within the ROW and City-owned facilities outside the ROW.
• Perform other Engineering Department duties as assigned by the City Engineer.

Associates degree preferred in Engineering and / or Surveying
