Job summary

The City of Altoona is seeking a full-time Engineering Technician I to join the Public Works Department. You will support the Engineering team with technical duties including preparing and reviewing plans and bids, inspecting materials, researching data, and analyzing site topography.

A working knowledge of civil engineering and CAD is preferred. The ideal candidate will read and interpret civil plans and maps, communicate effectively with contractors and officials, and work closely with the

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related technical training or experience.
• Requires valid driver’s license.
• Successful completion of a written aptitude assessment as part of screening.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review plans and bids for projects.
• Inspect materials and workmanship on projects.
• Research and collect data; analyze topographical details of sites.
• Read and interpret civil engineering plans, maps and specifications.
• Collaborate with contractors, government agencies, City officials and the public.
