Job summary

The City of Altoona is seeking a full-time Engineering Technician I to join our Public Works Department. This role supports the Engineering team with technical duties, including preparing and reviewing plans and bids, inspecting materials and workmanship, researching data, and analyzing site topography.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of civil engineering principles, experience with drafting and CAD, surveying, and the ability to read civil plans and maps.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of related technical/college training in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, civil engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.
• Or two (2) years of related experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Successful completion of a written aptitude assessment as part of the screening process.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review plans and bids.
• Inspect materials and workmanship of projects.
• Research and collect data.
• Analyze topographical details of sites.
• Read and interpret civil engineering plans, maps, and specifications.
• Work with contractors, governmental agency representatives, City officials, and the public.
