Job summary

Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources seeks a Senior Engineer to provide advanced process engineering and capital improvement planning for water reclamation facilities. You will support long-range infrastructure planning and coordinate cross-functional teams within the Technical Services Division to drive technical projects.

The ideal candidate has PE licensure, a Bachelor’s in Engineering, and at least six years of progressive engineering experience, with supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Six years of progressive engineering experience.
  • PE license preferred; supervisory experience advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting complex treatment process and operational issues
  • Evaluating and optimizing facility performance, efficiency, and reliability
  • Supporting operational decision-making through engineering analysis and recommendations
  • Developing and prioritizing CIP projects based on identified needs
  • Coordinating with consultants, design teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders

In addition, DWR maintains 3,667 miles of water lines, 2,654 miles of sewer lines and 1,325 miles of storm water pipe. This position is in the Water Reclamation section of the Technical Services Division and is primarily responsible for two key functions: advanced process engineering and operational support for water reclamation facilities, and the development, planning, prioritization, and coordination of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. The position provides advanced technical expertise in support of water reclamation operations, long-range infrastructure planning, and other technical projects and initiatives within the Technical Services Division or Department as a whole. The ideal candidate will possess responsible experience in engineering, water reclamation, wastewater treatment processes, applied research and development, or related areas, including experience with complex technical projects and programs.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties
Technical and Operational Support
  • Troubleshooting complex treatment process and operational issues
  • Evaluating and optimizing facility performance, efficiency, and reliability
  • Supporting operational decision-making through engineering analysis and recommendations
Master Planning and Long-Range Planning
  • Evaluating future treatment capacity and infrastructure needs
  • Developing and evaluating alternatives to address future needs
  • Identifying and prioritizing future system and facility improvements
Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
  • Developing and prioritizing CIP projects based on identified needs
  • Conducting technical evaluations and developing project requirements
  • Developing project scopes, budgets, and technical recommendations
  • Coordinating with consultants, design teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders
Non-CIP Projects and Initiatives
  • Managing technical studies, investigations, and operational improvement projects
  • Coordinating research and development activities and technology evaluations
  • Developing project requirements, scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Coordinating resources and implementation of technical recommendations
Research, Innovation, and Process Improvement
  • Evaluating new treatment technologies and innovative approaches
  • Supporting bench-scale, pilot-scale, and full-scale investigations
  • Applying research findings to improve facility performance and treatment processes
Department-Wide Technical Support
  • Supporting other Technical Services Division and DWR projects, programs, and initiatives as needed
  • Collaborating with consultants, regulatory agencies, research organizations, universities, and other stakeholders

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering;
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering experience, some of which should be in a supervisory capacity;
  • Valid Driver’s License from state of residency;
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)
Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, water reclamation, wastewater treatment processes, applied research and development, or related areas, including experience with complex technical projects and programs
