Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develops accurate cost estimates for active design projects.
  • Learns KYTC feature code language used in TOPO surveying and DTM construction.

By joining our Project Development and Preservation Branch I as an Engineer-In-Training II in Laurel County; you’ll have the opportunity to perform intermediately complex engineering work on projects with a larger scope of work to develop practical skills in support of academic theory to provide sufficient competence to qualify for registration as a professional engineer.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversees portions of specific engineering related functional areas to analyze data and ensure conformance to approved plans and engineering standards.
  • Coordinates and oversees contractors, consultants, and engineering work performed by technical and sub-professional personnel.
  • Serves as project manager for consultant highway design projects.
  • Develops accurate cost estimates for active design projects.
  • Learns KYTC feature code language used during TOPO surveying and Digital Terrain Model construction.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience as an Engineer-In-Training.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Certification as an Engineer-In-Training recognized by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors (http://kyboels.ky.gov/) Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Incumbents working in this title will perform duties in an office and/or field setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
