Job summary

Entergy is seeking an Engineer I - Sr (Utility) to meet with customers, determine electrical needs, and perform planning, maintenance, and design tasks. The role covers grid design, operations, asset management, reliability, safety, and root-cause analysis.

You will provide technical guidance, manage large projects, review designs, and participate in external meetings while delivering sound engineering decisions under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four‑year accredited institution.
  • PE licensure may be considered for eligibility.
  • Electrical or Mechanical engineering background is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to distribution designers and local area line groups.
  • Manage projects including highway relocations and reliability upgrades.
  • Review electrical designs to meet customer needs and standards.
  • Attend meetings with customers, architects, developers, contractors, and authorities.
  • Perform engineering calculations for planning and corrective actions.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts locally and out of town.

Job Title

Engineer I - Sr (Utility)

Position Levels

Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III depending on qualifications.

Job Summary

Responsible for meeting with customers to determine electric needs and requirements. Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, and design engineering activities related to routine, non‑routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance to the Distribution Designers and local area line groups.
  • Provide project management for all large projects including highway relocations, governmental projects, planned improvement and reliability projects.
  • Review and recommend for approval electrical designs that meet customer needs, comply with company standards, and enhance the overall system performance and reliability.
  • Participate in meetings with external customers, architects, developers, contractors, and government entities to communicate standards and guidelines.
  • Perform engineering calculations to aid in planning and corrective measure projects.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts both local and out of town.
Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial) from a four‑year accredited institution.

Degrees in engineering technology (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial) from a four‑year accredited institution with a PE may be considered.

Preferred Education

Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree.

Minimum Experience
  • Engineer I: 0–2 years experience.
  • Engineer II: 2+ years experience.
  • Engineer III: 4+ years experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Technical mastery of engineering principles.
  • In‑depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.
  • Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions.
  • Mentors other engineers and technical professionals.
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Good knowledge of PC operations and related software.
  • Familiar with National Electrical Safety Codes and National Electrical Code.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and mitigate them.
  • Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.
