Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach's Public Utilities Department is seeking an Engineer II or Engineer III to lead the design and construction of water and sanitary sewer capital projects. You will manage projects, review plans, and ensure designs meet city specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with EIT certificate and two years of progressive professional experience (Engineer II).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a PE license from the Virginia board and five years of experience (Engineer III).

  • Serve as Project Manager and Engineer-in-Charge for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater projects; ensure timely and on-budget design and construction.
  • Administer contracts for design and construction projects.
  • Conduct field investigations and interpret contract requirements; prepare reports and maintain records.

This position will be responsible a variety of engineering duties and project management to support operations and the maintenance of public facilities. In this role, you will be managing the design and construction of capital improvement projects, focusing on water and sanitary sewer systems, pump stations, force mains and water distributions systems. As an integral team member, you will review construction plans, ensuring adherence to department and city specifications and collaborate closely with engineering consultants.This position will be filled as an Engineer II or an Engineer III, depending on qualifications.Duties:Serve as Project Manager and Engineer-in-Charge for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater projects and ensure timely and on-budget design and construction.Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.Conduct field investigations and interpret contract requirements.Prepare reports and maintain project documentation and records.Coordinate and administer project work orders, bids, contracts, and invoices.Perform infrastructure condition assessment and manage water and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation projects.Coordinate with City Departments, Public Utilities Operations, and Local and State Agencies.Provide Engineering support for operation and maintenance of Public Utilities infrastructure.Consistently apply independent decision-making skills.Work from Home is available after 6-months, in accordance with City and DPU Engineering Work from Home policies.The City offers a generous benefits package such as health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans.
