Job summary

MaineHealth is seeking an Engagement & Stabilization Specialist at Maine Medical Center to support patient, visitor, and staff safety. This role partners with clinical teams to identify at-risk individuals, conduct rounds, build rapport, and apply de-escalation techniques to prevent incidents of violence and maintain a therapeutic environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and BLS/CPI/MOAB or related trainings.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• License/Certifications: Valid driver's license required. BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days. CPI/MOAB/Crisis Intervention Training/Mental Health First Aid required (or within 6 months).
• Experience: Prior healthcare security, law enforcement, military, or behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
• Additional Skills/Requirements: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build trust quickly; de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and workplace violence prevention knowledge; can work in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment; strong report-writing; proficient in Word/Excel.
• Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Familiarity with security operations, protocols, and incident response procedures is preferred.

Summary:

The Engagement & Stabilization Specialist is a specialized security role dedicated to supporting the safety and well-being of patients, visitors, and staff within the healthcare environment. Unlike traditional security officers, Specialists work in close collaboration with clinical teams to proactively identify individuals at risk of behavioral escalation. Specialists perform regular rounding, build rapport, and employ de-escalation strategies to prevent incidents of workplace violence and ensure a safe, therapeutic environment.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1. Education:High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
2. License/Certifications: Valid driver's license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days. Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI), Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), Crisis Intervention Training, Mental Health First Aid required (or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
3. Experience: Prior healthcare security, law enforcement, military, or behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly. Proven ability to manage stressful situations and remain calm under pressure. Knowledge of de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed care, and workplace violence prevention practices. Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment. Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and respect for diverse populations. Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports, including daily shift summaries, incident reports, and activity logs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, for documentation, data entry, and basic reporting. Ability to observe, assess, and document situations objectively and thoroughly.
5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred:Familiarity with security operations, protocols, and incident response procedures is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $21.97to $29.28 per hour.

Compensation for part-time positions isdeterminedon a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
