Job summary

Octopus Energy is building its North America flexibility business from the ground up in San Francisco. This generalist role requires switching between regulatory comments, wholesale market analysis, and RFP delivery, all while maintaining a clear thread and strong collaboration with partners.

You’ll move quickly: shaping dispatch strategies, drafting business development pitches, and turning complex problems into actionable recommendations. Expect ownership, fast decision cycles, and real impact.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in energy, ideally near DER, wholesale markets, or energy policy.
• Strong quantitative and data analysis chops; excels in Excel and can wrangle data in Python/SQL.
• Interdisciplinary brain: move between commercial, analytical, regulatory, and delivery work.
• Excellent communication; write clearly and deliver persuasive presentations.
• High tolerance for ambiguity; able to switch context and priorities quickly.
• Ownership and pace; drive work from idea to delivery, without waiting for direction.

Responsibilities

• Help develop and win new commercial opportunities — support business development, partnerships, and RFP responses to utilities and government clients.
• Support in program delivery, streamline operational processes, and help get a new project off the ground.
• Analyze wholesale and retail energy markets to inform dispatch strategies, program design, and value analysis.
• Support regulatory engagement — tracking proceedings and helping draft comments for utility commissions.
• Turn messy, ambiguous problems into clear analysis, sharp recommendations, and actionable decks.
• Build the models, memos, and materials that move a deal, a program, or a policy position forward.
• Jump into whatever the moment needs — adapt quickly to take on unmapped parts.
