The ideal candidate holds an accredited nursing degree, active RN licensure in California, and BLS/ACLS/PALS as applicable, with GI/OR experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• One year of GI, OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standing.
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification.
• Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
• Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if pediatric care is included within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
• Specialty certification in GI Nursing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care by implementing: protecting the patient from injury from objects, chemicals, electrical, mechanical and thermal sources.
• Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and report unsafe situations.
• Advocate for the patient’s safety and rights throughout care.
• Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and adherence to Universal Protocol and site time-out procedures.
• Communicate patient status across care continuum; administer medications using the 8 rights.
• Ensure endoscopy instruments and accessories are maintained and functioning; troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Assess and monitor patient status post-procedure and recover from anesthesia (moderate sedation and MAC).
• Provide education on expected psychosocial responses, nutrition, medications, pain management, and outcomes.
