Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Chicago is seeking a Nurse Clinician to provide nursing assessments and interventions in a multidisciplinary setting. You will perform patient assessments via phone or in person and coordinate education for the unit's population, using sound clinical judgment.

The role requires RN licensure, an associate degree in nursing, CPR certification, and at least two years of acute or ambulatory care experience; Bachelor's degree is preferred for some positions.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• State Licensed Registered Nurse for the state of employment.
• Certification in Basic CPR.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with OSHA regulations and report deficiencies.
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings in the medical record; coordinate with physicians and health care providers.
• Carry out routine nursing duties including phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs, and specimen handling; perform complex procedures as needed.
• Interpret test results and take appropriate remedial action; document interventions clearly in the chart.
• Communicate and collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care and with outside agencies as needed.
• Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards; document assessments accordingly.
• Manage urgent and emergent medical situations following organizational protocols and operate emergency equipment as required.
• Serve as a resource for staff and physicians; delegate tasks per Illinois law and protocols to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants.
• Propose and implement policy improvements to enhance patient experience; lead patient education initiatives and participate in community outreach as requested.
