Job summary

EY is seeking an experienced engineer to turn emerging AI capabilities into durable products. You’ll work close to users and production code, owning complete product slices from concept to live service in a hybrid US-facing role.

Speed matters, but accessibility, maintainability, and simple, evidence-based decisions are essential. The Challenger Core team shapes and maintains shared tech, tools, and guardrails for fast, cost-effective delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• End-to-end delivery: Take customer- or employee-facing software from concept through launch, learning, and adoption.
• Technical breadth across frontend, backend, API, data, and cloud technologies.
• Applied AI experience: Hands-on building products with large language models, retrieval, tools, or similar AI patterns.
• Evaluation experience: Automated testing and behavioral evaluation for systems with variable outputs.
• Live-service ownership: Telemetry, debugging, reliability, incident response, recovery and performance improvements.
• User-centered practice: Work with users, designers and product leaders to turn evidence into better decisions.
• Engineering craft: Clear specifications, maintainable code, thoughtful review, sound trade-offs.
• Travel and On-site requirements: Up to 50% travel and hybrid office.

Responsibilities

• Start with the user; work with users and domain experts to understand workflows and identify AI value.
• Test assumptions quickly; translate hypotheses into specs, prototypes and small releases.
• Own complete product slices; build coherent verticals across experience, services, data, AI behavior and enterprise integrations.
• Shape AI behavior; design instructions, context, retrieval, outputs and tool use with evidence-based adjustments.
• Build the evidence system; create tasks and automated evaluations to show usefulness, correctness, accessibility, and cost.
• Connect outcomes to behavior; instrument journeys to relate adoption to system performance and cost.
• Engineer for responsible use; establish permission boundaries, data handling, checkpoints, and safe rollbacks.
• Own production quality; release incrementally, monitor live behavior, respond to incidents and improve.
• Make practical trade-offs; balance experience, quality, speed, reliability and cost with deterministic software when appropriate.
• Contribute reusable patterns; share components and evaluation assets while ensuring performance in the product workflow.
