Job summary

Lerch Bates is seeking a Building Enclosure Consultant in Baltimore to support assessment, investigation, rehabilitation, restoration, and modernization of existing building enclosure systems. You will evaluate roofing, waterproofing, facade, fenestration, and exterior walls, identifying deterioration and water intrusion while developing durable repair solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
5+ years of experience in building enclosure consulting, structural engineering, building science, forensic investigations, restoration consulting, rehabilitation design, or existing building consulting.
Experience with historic preservation, adaptive reuse, or landmark building rehabilitation projects.
Familiarity with historic building materials including masonry, stone, terra cotta, cast stone, wood windows, and traditional waterproofing systems.
IIBEC credentials (RRC, RRO, RBEC) or other related preservation, enclosure, or building science certifications.
Strong technical writing and report preparation experience.

Responsibilities

Investigate building enclosure issues including roofing, waterproofing, exterior wall systems, cladding, glazing, sealants, balconies, façades, and other enclosure components.
Review construction documents and past repairs to identify risks and develop restoration strategies.
Develop repair, rehabilitation, restoration, and modernization strategies for building enclosure systems.
Coordinate preparation of repair drawings, specifications, bid documents, and other construction documentation.
Conduct site observations and quality assurance reviews during construction and provide technical guidance to ensure design intent is met.
Mentor junior consultants and build strong client relationships while managing multiple projects.
