Job summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Mercy Health System provides direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support in alignment with Mercy EMS standards and the Employee Code of Conduct. The role may include clerical and dispatch duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Current EMT license for the state of employment.
• Valid driver's license.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
• Hazmat Awareness certification.
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire.
• ITLS or equivalent training preferred.
• Ability to work varying shifts and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Stock ambulance and equipment; keep clean and ready for use.
• Operate emergency vehicles safely per Mercy EMS policies.
• Respond to non-emergent transfers out of the hospital.
• Assist in patient assessment and pre-hospital care.
• Maintain documentation and radio communications.
• Act as a patient advocate with professional conduct.
• Support interagency teamwork and leadership when required.
• Promote cost-effective, high-quality patient care.
• Complete mandatory training and fitness-for-duty tests.
• Adhere to universal precautions and wear PPE.
