Job summary

County of Roanoke Virginia is seeking an Operational Medical Director to lead medical oversight for the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue EMS system and its Emergency Medical Dispatch program. You will establish education, training, guidelines, and quality control for the EMS providers and EMD staff, while ensuring adherence to Virginia regulations.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of Virginia EMS rules and regulations governing local emergency medical services.
• Understanding of EMS system design, protocols, and standing orders.
• Ability to evaluate providers and resolve performance gaps in EMS care.
• Strong communication with medical community, staff, volunteers and officials.
• Skilled in emergency medical care and instruction.

Responsibilities

• Provides medical oversight of the EMS system and EMD program.
• Establishes education, training and guidelines for EMS personnel.
• Approves participation of pre-hospital providers under medical license.
• Establishes and audits EMS treatment protocols and standing orders.
• Responds to incidents to provide medical oversight and care.
• Fosters collaboration with medical community and hospitals.
• Supervises EMS system with Battalion Chief – EMS (non-managerial).
