Job description

Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the EMS Dispatcher EMT PD (per diem) position is to use the Medical Priority Dispatch System and Fire Service Communications System to answer and triage telephone requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance from, and for, patients of all ages and populations. Gathers and processes pertinent information, provides pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions, and dispatches and coordinates the response of appropriate resources while monitoring all communications for efficiency and the safety of responding units under the supervision of an EMS Communications Supervisor. The EMS Dispatcher EMT PD (per diem) performs in the communications center or the field as required, completing all required documentation and other assigned duties supporting efficient EMS operations and representing UH, and EMS in a positive and professional manner.

Qualifications

The EMS Dispatcher EMT must have at least two (2) years EMS experience; one (1) year of Public Safety dispatching experience is preferred. The EMS Dispatcher EMT must be able to pass a medical evaluation and a respirator fit test and wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in accordance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment. It is desirable that the EMS Dispatcher EMT speaks Spanish. The EMS Dispatcher EMT must possess and maintain current and active credentials in good standing (as determined by initial and periodic Primary Source Verification) as follows:

Credential Required: NJ Basic Telecommunicator certification AND NJ Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification (or an equivalent certification approved by the EMS Department Management) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by the National Registry OR the states of NJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, VA, WV, or the District of Columbia, or any other member of the Atlantic EMS council OR NJ Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification.

Note: NJ EMT Reciprocity must be obtained within 6 months of hire AND Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for the Healthcare Provider.

Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The EMS Dispatcher EMT will, on a routine and daily basis, be required to see colors, hear voice, phone, and radio communications, speak, and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, as well as operate computer, wireless, and other electronic equipment. The EMS Dispatcher EMT will, on a routine and daily basis, be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. In certain situations, the EMT Dispatcher may be required to smell, walk, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, or jump. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
