The primary purpose of the EMS Dispatcher EMT position is to use the Medical Priority Dispatch System and Fire Service Communications System to answer and triage telephone requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance from patients of all ages and populations. The role involves gathering and processing pertinent information, providing pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions, dispatching and coordinating the response of appropriate resources, and monitoring all communications for efficiency and safety under the supervision of an EMS Communications Supervisor. The EMS Dispatcher EMT may perform duties in the communications center or the field, complete all required documentation, and support efficient EMS operations while representing UH and EMS professionally.
The EMS Dispatcher EMT must regularly see colors, hear voice, phone, and radio communications, speak and communicate in English, operate computers and electronic equipment, and may be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods. In certain situations, the role may require smelling, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, kneeling, crawling, climbing, or jumping.
