Job summary

Butler Medical Transport is seeking a Dispatcher with EMT certification to coordinate interfacility transfers and ambulance/air transport. The role involves prioritizing requests, ensuring compliance, and communicating with nursing teams to determine care levels.

The position is full-time, on-site at Windsor Mill, MD, with shifts including nights and weekends to support 24/7 operations. Requires HIPAA knowledge and strong computer literacy.

Qualifications

• Must be 19 years or older at time of hire for insurance purposes.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent; associate degree in business administration, statistics, or training and development preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be available for recall in times of crisis or staffing issues.
• One year of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and writing patient care reports.
• Ability to sit stationary for long periods and move as needed.
• Able to read, speak, and write English.
• Proficient in general computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and dispatch ambulance services for interfacility transfers, including critical care and flight operations (Rotor/Fixed).
• Manage and prioritize requests for transport, ensuring optimal allocation of SCT/ALS and BLS resources.
• Delineate required level of care and communicate with nursing teams as needed.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and EMS communication standards.
• Handle wheelchair transport logistics for mobility-impaired patients.
• Operate crew radios and maintain clear communication with field staff.
• Monitor unit status using System Status Management and update real-time ETAs.
• Ensure accurate time stamps and real-time changes for best ETA to facilities.
• Understand facility priorities and escalation procedures to leadership.
• Optimize board to maximize crew utilization without degrading response times.
• Provide real-time status updates to all stakeholders.
