Job summary

UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is seeking a Full-Time Communications Specialist I to support the STAT MedEvac system within the Ambulance and Chair team. The role involves processing service requests, coordinating transport communications, and documenting data in the computer system.

Responsibilities include responding by phone/radio, ensuring confidentiality, and participating in staff training while maintaining logs and meeting staffing needs for 24/7 coverage.

Qualifications

• CPR/BLS certification required (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
• Experience in emergency operations center dispatch is preferred but not required.
• Willingness to work varied shifts and be on-call.
• Ability to work productively in a complex environment and operate a computer.

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests by phone, radio, or other communications methods and assign to the appropriate transport mode.
• Coordinate communications between transport teams and referring/receiving hospitals.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times and document data in the computer system.
• Assist in training and onboarding of new staff and participate in quality improvement activities.
• Dispatch STAT MedEvac assets and maintain logs and records.
