Job summary

UPMC’s Center for Emergency Medicine in West Mifflin, PA, is hiring Full-Time Communications Specialists to support STAT MedEvac’s STATCOM. Positions include Communications Specialist I (non-EMT) and II (EMT).

You will assist EMS with physician consults and patient handoffs, dispatch STAT MedEvac assets, and coordinate with receiving hospitals. Orientation starts at UPMC Medical Command; after competency validation, you’ll train in critical care ground and helicopter dispatch, with day, night

Qualifications

• Respond to requests by phone, radio or other communications methods.
• Assign requests to the most appropriate patient transport mode (helicopter, fixed wing or ambulance).
• Coordinate communications between transport teams, referring and receiving hospitals.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Document and retrieve information / data on computer/network systems.

Responsibilities

• Responds to service requests via phone, radio or other communications methods with appropriate urgency and accuracy.
• Assigns requests to patient transport mode (air, ground) and coordinates with transport teams.
• Maintains logs and records for STAT MedEvac assets and related activities.
• Ensures patient information confidentiality in all communications and documentation.
• Participates in shift reports and supports team training and ongoing education.
