Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in their homes. You will work under supervision to promote daily living skills, safety, and community involvement.

Responsibilities include implementing the Person-Centered Plan, coordinating with families and teams, and assisting with meals, medications, and daily tasks. Training, CPR/First Aid, and compliance are required.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities field.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred or required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and orientation; maintain CMS trainings.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Written and verbal communication skills must be clear and professional.
• Problem solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Provides necessary supports identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team.
• Teaches and performs household tasks (cleaning, cooking, budgeting, shopping).
• Assists people to develop daily living skills per Person-Centered Plan.
• Assists with medication administration as prescribed.
• May provide First Aid/CPR and emergency response when needed.
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in people’s social activities.
