Job summary

Citizens Options Unlimited seeks dedicated Direct Support Staff to advocate for and assist individuals with disabilities in a residential setting in New York. You will support daily living activities, health needs, and community participation to help people live with independence and dignity.

Role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, adherence to safety protocols, and engagement in ongoing training and documentation as part of a supportive services program.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate and understand written and oral directives/information.
• Mentors new Direct Support Staff by demonstrating routines and reviewing training materials.
• Ability to participate as part of an inter-disciplinary team and support individuals with intellectual and other disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing guidance and support to individuals to participate in daily activities and routines.
• Support individuals in becoming active community members and maintaining relationships.
• Assist with household chores and meal preparation to promote independence and health.
• Assist with medication administration according to agency policy and procedures.
• Document treatment plans, progress notes, and other required records to support autonomy and safety.
• Provide transportation to medical appointments, shopping, and community activities.
• Attend and contribute to house meetings and team discussions.
