Job summary

WellCare Homes is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide compassionate direct care in a licensed residential setting in California. You will assist with daily living activities, support development of independence, and ensure safety following IPP/IBSP and regulatory standards.

You will document health status, support behavioral programs, transport clients, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record and insurability.
• DOJ/FBI Live Scan fingerprint clearance and other background checks.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification prior to providing direct care.
• Health screening and TB clearance per Title 22 regulations.
• Must meet Title 17 and Title 22 licensing/training requirements.
• Must complete required orientation and mandatory training within designated timeframes.
• Must complete DSP 1 and DSP 2 training requirements or pass the applicable challenge test.
• Must obtain and maintain required certifications, including RBT where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and supervision to clients with developmental disabilities and assist with activities of daily living.
• Support clients in achieving goals identified in IPP/IBSP/Health Care Plans.
• Observe and report changes in physical condition, behavior, and safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain confidential documentation, medication logs, and incident reports per regulations.
• Safely transport clients to appointments and community activities.
• Implement behavior support strategies and emergency procedures per plans.
• Prepare and serve meals following dietary guidelines and maintain a clean home.
• Communicate professionally with clients, staff, families, and providers while preserving confidentiality.
• Advocate for clients’ rights, dignity, and independence.
• Handle clients’ funds and records according to policies.
• Comply with mandated reporting and report abuse or neglect.
• Attend trainings, certifications, and competency requirements to maintain licensing.
• Perform lifting, transferring, and mobility support as needed.
• Work in settings with potential exposure to diseases and challenging behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
