Job summary

REI is seeking candidates for the Store Manager in Training (SMIT) program designed for experienced retail leaders ready to advance to store leadership. As an SMIT, you’ll partner with Store Managers and Regional Directors, rotate through stores, and develop expertise in operations, people leadership, and business management.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of successful retail leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing and leading teams.
• Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to analyze business results and make informed decisions.
• Flexibility to travel within the assigned region for training and business needs.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a comprehensive leadership development program designed to prepare you for Store Manager responsibilities.
• Learn and demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of store operations, people leadership, and business management.
• Actively seek feedback, coaching, and learning opportunities to accelerate your growth.
• Foster an engaging, inclusive, and welcoming environment for employees and customers.
• Coach, develop, and motivate teams to achieve performance goals while delivering exceptional service.
• Support hiring, onboarding, training, development, and succession planning efforts.
• Learn to oversee all aspects of store operations, including staffing, scheduling, inventory, safety, and facilities.
• Support execution of company initiatives, operational standards, and business priorities.
• Utilize business metrics and trends to identify opportunities and improve performance.
• Represent REI in local communities and help build relationships that support business growth and outdoor access.
• Champion REI's values and commitment to creating positive impact inside and outside the store.
• As development progresses, you'll gain hands-on experience performing Store Manager responsibilities and may serve in an acting leadership capacity when needed.
