Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in daily operations, staffing, inventory, merchandising, and customer service. The role serves as a development path for future Store Manager responsibilities.

The position involves supporting store processes, overseeing cashier activities, and maintaining a safe, well-stocked environment. Some travel is required with limited overnight stays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• 1 year retail experience preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to recruit, hire, and train staff while following legal compliance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with store safety, cash handling, and inventory controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by staging, stocking and pricing according to store manager direction.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, scans, paperwork, and controls.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership and act as a role model for procedures and policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities and secure bank deposits.
• Ensure cash control and accountability, proper key control, and security practices.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate the store in the store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements for trends and opportunities; reinforce expense control.
• Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
