Job summary

WSP is initiating a search for an Early Career Electrical Engineer (ESSP) for our Kansas City, MO office. The role involves performing electrical studies and developing SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients across power delivery projects.

Responsibilities include protective relaying, planning studies, design studies, and networking for RTUs and HMIs. Travel to project sites is expected; collaboration with cross-functional teams is required. Relocation not offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or pending degree.
  • 0–1 years post-education experience.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Basic technical writing, office software, and math principles.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and policies.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical studies and/or develop and troubleshoot SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients.
  • Support protective relaying, coordination, and relay settings calculations; interface with SCADA.
  • Contribute to power system planning studies and voltage stability assessments.
  • Assist with design studies including grounding, insulation, and power quality analyses.
  • Configure networking for RTUs, HMIs, meters; travel to project sites to commission systems.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation of findings and calculations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across controls, procurement, and project management.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks and support risk assessment activities.
