Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant in San Diego to support the team from day one. You will triage, comfort pet parents, assist with treatments, and participate in a fast-paced ER environment.

You'll work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians, learn anesthesia setup, CPR, and RECOVER certification, and pursue growth through guided training paths. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus!).
• Basic computer skills and EMR understanding.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medications.
• Join patient rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into more advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
