Job summary

VEG Austin is seeking a Part-Time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support our fast-paced team from day one, triaging patients, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time.

You’ll assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, anesthesia setup with our VTs and veterinarians, manage IV fluids, and join rounds. Training to CPR and RECOVER certification provided; growth pathways available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR/software familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, guide to care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient, exam to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and monitor continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
